Description
Dell Slim Desktop crypto computer – same hardening, different form factor.
The Dell Slim Desktop crypto computer is what you choose when a laptop isn’t the right fit. Some clients want a permanent crypto workstation that stays on a desk, with their own monitor and keyboard. Some want the extra power and storage headroom that a desktop chassis allows. Some prefer a tidy fixed setup over a portable one.
This is a brand-new Dell Slim Desktop, completely hardened by FreedomTech and configured specifically for crypto use. Same hardening standard as our laptop range. Same browser separation. Same encrypted home folder. Same Rescue USB recovery toolkit. The only difference is the form factor — a compact desktop chassis instead of a 15.6″ laptop.
Blockchain transactions are irreversible. There is no fraud department to call. No chargeback. A dedicated, hardened machine removes the avoidable risks — phishing pages, rogue browser extensions, device compromise — by drawing a hard line between your crypto activity and everything else you do on a computer.
What “hardened” actually means.
Plenty of products throw the word around. Here’s exactly what it means on a FreedomTech crypto computer:
- Linux Mint Cinnamon — open-source foundation, no Microsoft telemetry, no forced updates, no background reporting
- Encrypted home folder — wallets, files, and sensitive data inaccessible without your login
- Browser separation enforced — Brave for daily browsing, LibreWolf locked to wallet activity only
- Firewall active by default — blocks unwanted network access from day one
- DNS-over-TLS — encrypted DNS lookups, harder to intercept or log
- Wi-Fi MAC randomisation — your hardware identity isn’t broadcast on every network you join
- USB auto-mount disabled — protects against malicious USB devices
- KeePassXC password manager — local, offline, no cloud sync
- Mullvad VPN pre-installed — ready to activate with your own subscription
- Timeshift snapshots configured — easy rollback if any update or change causes a problem
Every one of those items is set up before the desktop ships. You don’t configure them. You just plug it in and use it.
Two configurations. Same hardening standard.
The Dell Slim Desktop crypto computer comes in two configurations using the same compact chassis. Same processor, same memory, same hardening, same browser separation, same recovery tooling. The only difference is storage.
Both run the AMD Ryzen 7 170, an 8-core, 16-thread processor up to 4.8 GHz, with AMD Radeon 680M graphics and 16GB of DDR5 memory. That handles multiple browsers, charts, trading dashboards and a password manager without complaint, including on a multi-monitor setup.
512GB
The right pick for most people. A dedicated crypto machine does not usually accumulate large files.
1TB
Twice the storage. Worth it if the machine doubles as your record keeping and document archive, or you would rather not think about space again.
Why 16GB, and why no cheaper option.
A laptop gets replaced in four or five years. A desktop does not. Nobody carries it anywhere and nothing wears out, so the memory you buy today is the memory you live with for the next decade. Saving a couple of hundred dollars now to be short of memory for ten years is not a saving, which is why 16GB is the only memory we offer on this machine.

Why a desktop instead of a laptop?
For a dedicated crypto machine, a desktop has practical advantages a laptop can’t match:
- It stays put. A desktop on your desk is harder to misplace, harder to accidentally take to a coffee shop, easier to control physically
- Bring your own monitor. Use the screen size you actually want — single large display, dual monitors, or a multi-monitor trading setup
- Better thermals. Larger chassis, better airflow, sustained performance under heavier load
- Quiet on a desk. The Slim chassis is small enough to disappear under a monitor without dominating the workspace
- Easier physical security. Lock slot on the chassis if you want to physically secure it
If you need portability, the Crypto-Ready Dell 15 Laptop covers that. If you want a permanent fixed crypto workstation that lives on a desk and stays there, the Slim Desktop is the right call.
Browser separation — the operational rule that matters.
Hardening the operating system is half the job. The other half is what you do with the browser.
Brave handles your daily browsing — research, news, exchange websites, broker communication. Hardened for privacy. Rewards and AI features disabled.
LibreWolf is reserved for wallet activity only. Hardware wallets such as Ledger and Trezor work with it, as do wallet extensions such as MetaMask and Exodus.
It’s a simple operating rule that reduces cross-contamination of cookies, sessions, and extensions. It’s one of the most effective habits a serious crypto user can adopt — and it’s already configured the moment your desktop arrives.
Always recoverable. Always supportable.
Every Dell Slim Desktop crypto computer ships with a Rescue USB toolkit — so if something goes wrong, there’s a documented path back to a known-good baseline without guesswork. Reinstall Linux Mint quickly. Restore the hardened configuration. Self-managed, with included guides.
What you’ll need to bring
Like any desktop, this one needs you to provide your own monitor. It has DisplayPort 1.4a and HDMI 2.1 built in, so any modern monitor will work. If you’re not sure what to pair with it, contact us.
