Australians lost over $122 million worth of cryptocurrency assets in investment scams during 2024. Some of those losses were from lost credentials or cybercrime infiltrating Windows and macOS security standards. To ensure your crypto assets are best protected, it makes more sense to have both Linux laptops, designed for crypto investing by Freedom Technology and Services, and our encrypted USB backup devices.
Any time your crypto information is stored online, it can be stolen. Cybercriminals love to target cloud backups or poorly managed passwords to steal your hard-earned assets. Our encrypted USB drive works alongside Linux laptops for enhanced crypto security. Everything is hardened, so your sensitive information remains safe from online and offline threats.
The way our encrypted USB drives work is by including LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) protocols. That is the same level of encryption used by governments, global enterprises, and cybersecurity pros.
LUKS is considered “military grade” encryption. Even if someone gets their hands on your USB drive, all they would see is useless noise and digital fragments. That is because LUKS employs advanced algorithms (such as AES-256) that are well beyond the average cybercriminal’s capabilities, even with AI tools.
Another benefit is that you cannot plug LUKS USB drives into a Windows or macOS machine. They are only meant for Linux-structured devices, which is why they are featured in our Linux laptops for crypto investing. The way it works is simple:
Anyone actively involved in crypto trading already understands the risk of losing access to accounts. Our advanced USB drive, equipped with strong encryption, securely stores crypto-related data, including sensitive documents (such as broker agreements and transaction logs), wallet backups/recovery seeds, and KeePassXC database files, offline and out of reach of unwanted eyes. The benefits of which include:
We ship your USB drive with the default password of “11111111”, which you should change immediately to something unique and not personal. That will ensure only you have access to the files and crypto info you need. We also recommend placing your encrypted USB drive into one of our Faraday bags to provide shielding against EMF, RFID, or physical tampering.
The setup process for your encrypted USB drive with any crypto laptop purchase from Freedom Technology and Services is relatively straightforward.
Once you insert the USB drive into your Linux crypto laptop you will need to “Mount” it, as the laptop has been configured not to automatically open or recognize USB’s.
To achieve this you need to find the USB in “My Computer” and click on it.
you’ll be prompted for the default USB password. Enter “11111111” and you should be good.
Open up a new terminal and type in: sudo cryptsetup luksChangeKey/dev/sdx (replace “dev/sdx” with the correct USB device name). You’ll be asked to enter your old password first, and then to enter a new one. Ensure it is original, at least 12 characters long, uses both uppercase and lowercase letters, and incorporates a combination of numbers and special symbols. PS – We can set this up for you prior if it sounds too daunting.
Once you’ve unlocked the encrypted USB drive, you’ll get access to three pre-formatted folders, including Sensitive Documents, Wallet Backups, and KeePassXC Database. That will help you keep private information organized according to the settings of your crypto Linux laptop.
Whenever you’re not accessing your USB, be sure to unmount it before removing it. You can do this by right clicking on the USB in “my Computer”, and clicking “eject”. Another way is by typing sudo umount /media/username/USBNAME in the terminal.
The device will automatically lock itself once unmounted.
Owning an encrypted USB drive is a great way to start protecting your files, but you also need to modify some online habits. For starters, never share your password with anyone. Only you should know that phrase. Also, keep crypto-related files separate, such as your wallet address, seed data, and broker documents. You want a strong wall between your crypto information and streaming services, social media, or family files.
Always unmount the USB after use. If you leave it plugged in, you open yourself up to more risk of someone sitting at your machine and gaining access. You should also test your backups regularly so you know you can unmount when needed. Your USB is your secure, offline backup, free from the vulnerabilities of the cloud. To keep it safe, please place it in our Faraday bags for extra protection.
Crypto is the wave of the future. More and more governments and global businesses are leaning into digital assets, cryptocurrencies, and stablecoins. You don’t want to be left behind by risking the security of your much-needed files, passwords, and backups.
